Dave and Declan had set their wedding date before the historic ‘Yes’ vote last May. On May 22nd they both waited with anticipation and were so excited when the ‘yes’ vote was announced and they knew that they would finally be able to get married.
The day finally arrived and Dave and Declan got married on Sunday 21st of February 2016 in Finnstown Castle in Dublin, surrounded by their family and friends. Their wedding was the first official same sex wedding to take place in the venue.
At the ceremony both their mothers walked them down the aisle and the ceremony was a spiritual ceremony performed by the amazing Miriam Fitzgerald as they walked up the aisle to ‘A Thousand Years’ with saxophone sung by the lovely Angel Breannan. While a harp played throughout the ceremony, which tickled at people’s heart strings.
It was a real family affair, their brothers did a ring warming ceremony, passing the rings to the guests as they filled them with well wishes and thoughts. Declan’s sister Roisin and Dave’s brother Owen lit candles for their grandparents. Finally with their fathers by their sides as their witnesses they where married.
At the reception their guests were greeted with bubbly and canapés with Angel singing the afternoon away. As people took their seats for the meal Dave and Declan made their great and surprise entrance played in by the bagpipes.
The speeches took place before the meal where both brothers and fathers got their chances to get many laughs in. While the guests enjoyed their deserts the tables where entertained by a magician.
It was then time to hit the dance floor for the first dance and they sure did it in style, see their great first dance in the video below. The Bottle Brother Band helped them dance the night away into the early hours of the morning.
It was a day both Dave and Declan will cherish forever as ‘love is love and knows no boundaries whether your two men or two women, it should be cherished with you find it’
